Robben undeterred by Bayern competition

The winger was part of the Bayern side that won an unprecedented treble last season, as they added the UEFA Champions League and DFB-Pokal titles to their Bundesliga success.

During the close-season, Mario Goetze and Thiago Alcantara have joined from Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona respectively to add to the wealth of midfield talent already at the Allianz Arena that includes Thomas Mueller, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Franck Ribery.

But Netherlands international Robben believes that the additions can only be good for the team.

I think I will play. Obviously we have many good players and signed new ones, in general I like it because we made our team stronger, he said in a telephone interview with fans broadcast by Kicker.

We have more quality now. I don t think my …

Germany 7-1 Latvia: Muller on target as Low´s men round off Euros build-up with rout

Germany rounded off their preparations for Euro 2020 in style as they routed Latvia 7-1 in Dusseldorf.

Having been held to a 1-1 draw by Denmark last week, Germany were unsurprisingly much more impressive against significantly inferior opposition.

Two superb finishes in the space of two minutes from Robin Gosens and Ilkay Gundogan put the hosts in command before Thomas Muller made it 3-0 inside half an hour.

Goalkeeper Roberts Ozols was credited with an own goal to make it 4-0 after good work from the influential Kai Havertz, and his Chelsea team-mate Timo Werner followed Serge Gnabry in getting in on the act, with Leroy Sane having the final say after Aleksejs Saveljevs consolation.

26 With his goal against Latvia, Thomas has scored against 26 differ…

Zenit keen on United duo; QPR sign Bosingwa

Russian Premier League giants Zenit St Petersburg are reportedly interested in Manchester United attacking duo Dimitar Berbatov and Nani.

, Zenit are prepared to open talks with United over a potential move for the out-of-favour Berbatov.

The 31-year-old striker has been told he can leave Old Trafford despite being just one year removed from being the join top goal scorer in the English Premier League.

The arrival of Robin van Persie most likely confirms that Berbatov, who moved from White Hart Lane to Old Trafford for a record fee of £30 million in 2008, will not play for Manchester United again.

Sir Alex Ferguson could let the Bulgarian go for as little as £5 million, with the club surely looking to get rid of the striker s £110,000-a-we…

Real Madrid 3 Espanyol 0: Hosts respond after back-to-back defeats

Real Madrid bounced back from consecutive defeats by earning their first Liga points of 2015 with a routine 3-0 win over Espanyol.

A Liga defeat to Valencia last weekend was followed up by a Copa del Rey loss at bitter rivals Atletico Madrid on Wednesday but, although Fabio Coentrao was sent off early in the second half, Real never looked at risk of losing three games in a row for the first time since 2009.

Karim Benzema provided Espanyol with an early warning at the Santiago Bernabeu as he blasted against the post after just 10 minutes, and the breakthrough followed shortly after as James Rodriguez found the net following Cristiano Ronaldo s assist.

The FIFA Ballon d Or nominee then watched on as Gareth Bale doubled Real s lead with a fine free-kick in the 2…

Roma made life difficult for themselves, admits Di Francesco

Roma head coach Eusebio Di Francesco was relieved to see his side leave with three points following a tough 2-1 win over Qarabag.

Kostas Manolas and Edin Dzeko put the Serie A side comfortably in control after only 15 minutes but the home side hit back when Pedro Henrique scored the first Champions League goal for a team from Azerbaijan.

The hosts produced a far better performance than they managed in their 6-0 loss to Chelsea on matchday one but could not fashion a clear chance for an equaliser, as Roma held on for their first away win in the competition since November 2010.

Di Francesco admitted his side made their own lives difficult but says Qarabag proved they deserve respect.

2520 have won a Champions League match away from home for the first time …

Foden signs Manchester City deal to 2024

Manchester City have tied one of their star youngsters to a new deal, with Phil Foden putting pen to paper on a new contract running to 2024.

Foden is yet to start a Premier League game but is considered one of the brightest talents in England, although the 18-year-old has rejected comparisons to Barcelona icon Andres Iniesta.

City have lost out on some of their prized talent of late with Jadon Sancho moving to Borussia Dortmund, who he has helped to top the Bundesliga table, earning England caps in the process.

Brahim Diaz is also expected to follow Sancho away from the Etihad Stadium with Real Madrid reportedly lining up a deal for the teenager, whose contract is set to expire next year.

Stockport-born Foden committing his future to City is therefore a …
